On 14 December 2010, President Nicolas Sarkozy was present in Normandy for a panel discussion on the future of the space industry. With Ms. Valerie Pécresse, Minister of Higher Education and Research, Mr Bruno Le Maire, Minister of Agriculture, Food, Fisheries, and Rural Affairs, Mr. Eric Besson, Minister to the Minister of Economy, Finance and Industry, for Industry, Energy and the Digital Economy, and Mr. Rene Ricol, Commissioner for the Grand Emprunt, he symbolically met with some major French firms (represented by Mr. Welsh and Mr. EADS for Snecma), high-tech SMEs (represented by Sysnav through its Chairman, Mr Vissière, and society) and with the academic world (represented by a lab director and a doctoral student). The choice of Sysnav for this panel discussion, although the space is only a short quarter of the turnover of the company, is a recognition of the excellent development of Sysnav since its creation, just over 2 years ago, and its scientific and technical expertise.
Mr. Vissière has briefly traced the evolution of the company – which employs today a dozen of doctors or engineers – emphasizing the role played by public aids. He finally stressed the complexity of the relationships between major groups and SMEs: when these grow beyond a certain size, they are not only sub-contractors but become also potential competitors. Sysnav CEO was wondering how public policies could better support this growth transition which is known to remain a problem in France.

Every year, two of the major French papers devoted to business and industry , L’Usine Nouvelle and Industrie et Technologie, are awarding the title of “Engineer of year” in eight categories, in collaboration with the French National Board for Engineer and Scientist (Conseil National des Ingénieurs et des Scientifiques de France (CNISF)). David Vissière, founder of Sysnav, was nominated in two categories. He was finally awarded the Special Jury Prize for his breakthrough in low-cost navigation without GPS, and his ability to convert his innovative ideas into practical applications with his team.

As every year since 1986, CeBit (German acronym for Centrum für Büroautomation, Informationstechnologie und Telekommunikation) exhibited the most avant-gardist information technologies. This year, about 4 200 exhibitors from 68 countries came to present their last high-tech products and the most innovating technologies. CeBit is always a unique opportunity to embrace the whole panorama of tomorrow technologies.

Edition 2010 of CeBit aimed at à winning back the general public, choosing as principal them the «/Connected worlds/» with slogan : «/simpler and simpler, faster and faster/».

Between 300 000 and 400 000 visitors made the trip. This large technological event is the occaion for professionals to sign contracts, exchange, find inspiration and widen their networks of contacts.

Among the main companies were IBM, SAP, Microsoft, Alcatel-Lucen, Ericsson, Amazon, Symantec, Motorola, Adobe Systems, Hewlett-Packard. One more time, Apple stood out, running away with 4 prizes.

On the geolocation side, SYSNAV teams created a sensation with their GPS-free geolocation systems. Present on the site on Carnot institute under the banner of Mines-Paristech, they presented two systems which benefited the work of SYSNAV experts : SYSroad, the firstautonomous geolocation system for cars; and Parrot’s ARdrone, a toy-drone piloted through an Iphone and capable of flying indoors without GPS with stunninge precision! The opportunity for its teams to realize the growing fame of SYSNAV internationally.

This prestigious prize reassert SYSNAV’s expertise technological lead in the domain of navigation solutions, and establishes afresh the excellence and inventiveness of its R&D cell.

These research works are the basis of major technological progress, on which rest SYSNAV today navigation solutions.
